High Maintenance to Be Low Maintenance
The Reset Night That Makes Your Week Feel Effortless
High maintenance isn’t the problem—skipping it is. For a long time, I thought being “low maintenance” meant doing less. Less time getting ready, fewer steps, more shortcuts. But in reality, that just left me feeling like I was constantly playing catch-up—fixing my hair midweek, redoing my nails, layering on effort every single day.
What actually changed things for me was realizing this: if you want an easy, low-maintenance week, you need a high-maintenance reset first. Not every day. Not perfectly. Just once.
A couple of intentional hours that set you up so the rest of your week feels effortless.
The Reset Sunday Routine (Beauty Edition)
This is less about perfection and more about creating a baseline—so you wake up already feeling put together instead of trying to get there.
The Everything Shower: The Foundation
Everything starts here. The “everything shower” is the step that makes everything else work better. It’s not quick, and it’s not meant to be. It’s the reset.
Exfoliate body (while hair mask is on)
It’s simple, but it sets the tone. When your hair is clean and your skin is smooth, you’ve already done most of the work for the week.
The Glow Maintenance: What Carries You Through the Week
This is the part that people tend to skip—but it’s also what makes the biggest difference.
After my shower, I take a little extra time to do the things that last. A self-tan gives me a baseline glow for days, so I don’t feel like I need makeup just to look put together. I’ll go through my full skincare routine—not the rushed version, but the one where I actually let products sink in. Add in body lotion or oil, and everything just looks and feels better.
I’ll usually layer in teeth whitening here too, because it’s one of those small habits that quietly elevates everything without adding effort later.
The Details That Make Everything Feel Effortless
The smallest things tend to have the biggest impact.Taking a few minutes to file your nails, clean them up, brush out your brows, or put on a lip mask doesn’t feel significant in the moment—but it adds up. These are the details that make you look naturally put together, even on days when you’re doing the absolute minimum. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing the right things once, so they carry you.
What Actually Makes the Biggest Difference
Over time, I’ve realized not everything in this routine matters equally. If I had to narrow it down, the biggest impact always comes from three things: clean hair, smooth skin, and some kind of base glow—whether that’s from self-tan or just really good skin prep.
When those are taken care of, everything else becomes optional. You can throw on a basic outfit, skip makeup, and still feel like yourself.
What I Stopped Doing
This routine only started working when I stopped approaching it the wrong way. I stopped trying to maintain everything every single day. I stopped saving self-care for “when I had time,” because that time never really came. I stopped overcomplicating it with too many steps, too many products, too many expectations.
Most importantly, I stopped thinking that low maintenance meant doing less. Now, I just do it all at once—intentionally—and let that carry me through the week.
Bare Minimum vs. Full Reset
Not every reset night looks the same, and it doesn’t need to.
On lower-energy weeks, the bare minimum still works. A simple shower, shaving, basic skincare, and clean hair can be enough to help you feel reset and ready.
But when I have the time, the full version is what really changes things. The everything shower, the self-tan, the full skincare routine, the small details—it all adds up to a version of the week where I don’t have to try as hard.
The Whole Point
This isn’t about being high maintenance. It’s about making your week easier. Because when you’ve already done the work, you’re not rushing every morning or trying to fix things as you go. You’re just… existing in it. Already put together. Already feeling like yourself.
Spend a couple of hours resetting, and the rest of your week gets to feel lighter. And honestly—that’s the goal!
