What I Wore in the Dominican

For my birthday trip this year, Travis and I headed to the Dominican Republic and stayed at Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, an adults-only all-inclusive resort.

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you probably saw quite a few outfits pop up throughout the week. I always like doing a recap post like this because it’s the easiest way to see what I actually wore on the trip versus what just looked good in the suitcase while packing.

Overall, I tried to keep my outfits simple and intentional this trip — focusing on pieces that felt like my normal style, just styled for a tropical setting.

Travel Day Outfit

Travel day outfits are always a balance between comfort and looking somewhat put together. I went with something comfortable but still elevated enough that I didn’t feel sloppy walking through the airport.

For this look I wore:

  • a cashmere lounge set

  • a black trench coat

  • sneakers

  • hat (always a hat)

This is honestly one of my favorite travel outfit formulas because it’s comfortable for flying but still looks polished.

Pool Day Outfits

Pool days at Zilara were pretty much our entire daytime schedule, so I packed several swim looks that were simple but styled well. My approach for pool outfits is always:

minimal swimsuit + great accessories

A few of my favorites from the trip included:

  • a high waisted bikinis

  • lightweight cover-ups

  • oversized hats

  • statement jewelry

I’ve found that simple swimwear paired with good accessories always photographs the best at resorts.

Dinner Outfits

Dinner is where I like to have a little more fun getting dressed on vacation BUT the DR is very much more relaxed. The restaurants at the resort had a relaxed but elevated vibe, so I leaned into outfits that felt polished but still effortless.

Some of my favorite dinner looks were:

  • a sleek linen set

  • bold linen pants

  • a minimal dress paired with statement earrings

Nothing overly complicated — just simple outfits styled well.

Excursion Outfit

We did one excursion while we were there, so I needed something that was comfortable, breathable, and could get wet. For this day I kept things really simple with:

  • a one piece swimsuit underneath

  • comfortable sandals

  • sunglasses

  • minimal jewelry

Excursion days are definitely more about practicality than fashion, but I still like to wear something that feels put together (ish).

Final Thoughts

One thing I’m learning with vacation style is that you don’t need an entirely new wardrobe for a trip. You just need a few versatile pieces that can be styled differently throughout the week.

For this trip I mostly stuck to:

  • neutrals

  • linen pieces

  • statement accessories

Which made everything easy to mix and match. And honestly, that made getting dressed on vacation way easier.
