Elevate Your Style: Shopping
This fall I’m saying goodbye to neutrals and intentionally stepping into color. After seasons of defaulting to black because it’s easy, I’m challenging myself to build a capsule wardrobe with pieces that bring warmth and personality to my looks — without sacrificing sophistication.
If you’re new to this series
Earlier I shared how I help you find your body shape, how to discover your new elevated style, and how to do a proper closet clean out. Now comes the fun part: shopping.
How I’m approaching color (and how you can, too)
1. Pick a palette first
I decided what color palette I want to follow this season. A couple years ago I did a color analysis and discovered I’m a winter palette — so I’m leaning into colors that highlight my features. You don’t need a formal analysis to start; a simple mood board or inspiration images can guide you.
2. Use color strategically
If color feels overwhelming, keep your base outfit neutral and add color with accessories: handbags, coats, shoes, scarves, sunglasses. This adds pops of interest while keeping outfits cohesive and wearable.
3. Make a shopping plan
Before you shop, create a Pinterest mood board aligned with your new style. Start a list of missing pieces from those outfit collages so you shop with intention, not impulse.
4. Lean on tools for a capsule
I asked ChatGPT to create a 10-item fall/winter capsule for someone wanting to add a winter palette into her closet. Using AI (or a stylist, or your own curated list) makes composing a deliberate capsule much easier.
My shopping game plan
I’ve filled online carts and I’m heading out to see what I can find in person before ordering the rest. I’m focusing on capsule staples with a few key colored pieces to elevate outfits all season.
Want my wish list?
If you want to see my wish list or the 10-item capsule ChatGPT helped me create, let me know — I’ll share it. I’ll see you for the final part of this series once everything arrives and I style the pieces!
